Keeping sports fun — especially in the early stages of youth participation — is the primary concern of our programs. We believe in participation for all, positive competition and building character. We teach fundamentals and traditions of the game, champion sportsmanship and encourage family and community support.
Our T-Ball program (for boys and girls, ages 5-6 as of April 30, 2016) offers instruction in the basic fundamentals used in baseball and softball, such as hitting, fielding, game situations and base running. Program runs for six weeks, June 12-July 20, for two nights per week. First week will consist of two nights with a hour-long practice each night. The next five weeks will include two nights of a half-hour practice followed by a game. We will have an umpire on each diamond this season, helping with rules and keeping a good pace to the game. Soft safety ball will be used. Players need to furnish their own glove.
Registration Nights will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, and Thursday, Jan. 19, at the Civic Auditorium (held in lower level; use side door down the ramp on Plain Street to enter the building). The cost of the program is $50 for the first child and $40 for each additional child in same household. Beginning Jan. 20, registration also available at the Park Office, with a $20 late fee charged after May 5. On-line registration dates will be announced.
Make checks payable to the La Porte Park and Recreation Department. Visa/Master Card accepted. Please bring the participant's birth certificate along with the appropriate registration fee.
Rally Day will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at the Civic Auditorium. There will be a parents meeting and team assignments and schedules will be available.
