Code Enforcement
The Department of Code Enforcement aims to promote and maintain a safe and desirable living and working environment for the residents of our city. Our team works diligently to improve the quality of our community by administering a fair and unbiased enforcement program to correct violations of municipal codes and land use requirements.
The City of La Porte has adopted City codes and ordinances specifically designed to address blight, nuisances, and to maintain a clean environment for all citizens in our community. Our Code Enforcement team works in partnership with the people in our city to achieve these goals and work toward a cleaner La Porte.
Dumpster Program
Dumpsters are currently located across from the Water Dept. (1119 Lake St) and behind TransPorte (102 L St). No liquid, tires, or construction materials. For City residents only, please. Thank you to our friends at the Urban Enterprise Association for their efforts to help us clean La Porte! Click here to learn more about the dumpster program.
Animal Control
Required dog registration has long been a policy on the books for City residents, but we recently hired an animal control officer to enforce this important policy. This process is easy and affordable and helps to keep both our pets and residents safe.
To apply for registration, your dog must have current vaccines from a veterinarian. The registration process usually takes 24 hours to process to verify vaccinations. The registration will be placed on hold until verification is complete. Once the vaccines have been verified you will then be able to pay the registration fee. The registration fees are $10 for unaltered & $5 for altered.
Registration can be completed at the Utility Billing Office at City Hall (801 Michigan Ave) or online by clicking here.
If you have any questions or concerns, contact Animal Control Officer Paula Stokes at 219-688-3485.
