Midway International Airport and O’Hare International Airport, just over an hour away in Chicago, provide entry by air to the Michigan City LaPorte Area. These two international hubs are serviced by most of the major airlines in the world, and both provide access to the South Shore and South Bend Railroad via Chicago Transit Authority 12′ trains. The Chicago Department of Aviation portal provides traveler information for both airports.

South Bend Regional Airport, less than an hour from Michigan City, sees about 50 arrivals and departures a day from several US cities and also provides direct service to Michigan City via the South Shore and South Bend Railroad. Getting Here by Train

The South Shore and South Bend Railroad take commuters between South Bend and Chicago several times each day, stopping at the Carroll Avenue Station in Michigan City and free overnight parking is available there as well. View the South Shore Passenger Line Service for more details.

Amtrak also has a train station in Michigan City. The Wolverine line stops 3 times a day, once on its way to Chicago and twice on the way to Pontiac. The current station is a platform shelter near the former prairie-style Michigan Central Railroad depot dating from 1915, which is now a local restaurant (Arcadia Pub + Bar, 100 Washington Street, Michigan City, IN). It’s close to the city’s administrative office and the Lake Michigan shoreline. Parking is available east of the station.
