PARK AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT PART-TIME SENIOR CENTER ASSISTANT

UP TO $16.50 PER HOUR

GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION.  The Senior Center Assistant performs and coordinates a variety of clerical duties to support the day-to-day activities of a senior center.  Performs work related to assisting in programs and activity planning, implementation, promotion, and related support of the Senior Center Supervisor

ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION.  Duties include the following: other duties may be assigned.

Performs a variety of tasks to support facility activities including front desk reception, program information and registration, program activity tracking.

Assists patrons with requests for information, forwarding complicated requests to Senior Center Supervisor.

Distributes publicity materials for Senior Center activities.

Monitors volunteers for Senior Center activities.

Maintains regular and reliable attendance.

Maintains seamless customer service.

Serves in leadership capacity in the absence of supervisor.

Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES.  None.

QUALIFICATIONS/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

- Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.

- Excellent communication skills

- Requires the ability to work cooperatively with senior citizens.

- Ability to work at varying schedules including evenings and weekends when necessary.

- Requires the ability to concentrate and accomplish tasks despite interruptions and distractions.

- Requires the ability to work as contributing member of a team.

- Works productively and cooperatively with other teams and external customers.

- Conveys a positive image of the City.

- Ability to learn and follow City policies and regulations.

KNOWLEDGE and/or EXPERIENCE.  The position requires working knowledge of the practices and techniques used in a community service office such as filing systems, telephone technology, letter and report writing.  Requires a working knowledge of personal computer-based software programs that support this level of work, including but not limited to common office productivity software.  Requires mathematics skills to compute sums and statistics.  Requires sufficient human relations skills, present a positive image of the Senior Center and use patience in dealing with customers.

LANGUAGE SKILLS.  Ability to communicate effectively with the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS.  Requires mathematics skills to compute sums and statistics.

REASONING ABILITY.  Ability to understand, carry out, and give oral and written instructions and follow posted schedules.

Work is typically performed standing, bending, stooping, reaching, walking, sitting, and lifting concession supplies.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE.  High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS.  Valid Indiana Driver’s License and CPR/First Aid Certified.

OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES, QUALIFICATAIONS.  Ability to work courteously and tactfully with customers and employees, ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule, and ability to use equipment. properly and safely.
