The La Porte Park & Recreation Department is currently looking for Park Program Leaders to lead activities and supervise youth participants in an outdoor setting (park playground).

Wage: Up to $15.00 per hour

Leaders are encouraged to develop a balanced schedule of events to execute during the week.  Regular program hours are 9:00 am -11:30 a.m. and 1:30 pm - 4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday at a rotation of five designated City Parks.

Include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Attend and complete any training courses, meetings or certification courses as scheduled.
  • Plan, demonstrate, teach and lead a balanced weekly program schedule.
  • Maintaining disciple/safety and administering basic first aid.
  • Report to work at 8 a.m. to prepare for the day’s activities and be prepared to receive participants at the daily program start time.
  • Supervise youth participants and consistently model appropriate behavior.
  • Enforce all park and program rules at all times.
  • Perform general maintenance duties on a daily bases & other duties as assigned.
  • Keep attendance log per time slot at each park on a daily basis.
  • Keep an accurate inventory of all supplies and equipment.
  • Complete time sheets due every two weeks (every other Friday evening)
  • Supervision of children participating in the playground program activities.
  • Ability to work independently without constant supervision.  Ability to learn and perform new tasks and show initiative to perform new tasks without direct supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relations with the public and all employees
  • Complete and accident/incident forms and turn into the Park Office with 24 hours of the incident.
  • Work with other Leaders to develop leadership skills and organizational skills  .Responsibilities include planning, organizing, promoting, and conducting a comprehensive drop-in program for children. Activities should include sports activities, arts & crafts, nature activities, organized games, etc. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and maintain First Aid and CPR certifications.
