ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION include the following, other duties may be assigned:

  • Assigns officials for adult basketball games on a regular basis; furnishes department with a schedule to be typed and sent to officials as needed; maintains replacements or substitutes (includes regular season and tournaments).
  • Keeps an accounting of games worked by each official for payroll purposes.
  • Attends pre-season official’s organizational meetings or clinics (usually 2-3).
  • Displays leadership as an official in helping to influence other officials working in the leagues; displays proper dress, appearance, and professional conduct as an official; displays supervision to other officials as needed (dress, conduct, or appearance - game situations, rules, etc).

Makes recommendations to the Park and Recreation Department as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises employees in the Basketball Officials Department.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

KNOWLEDGE and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience..

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions fro groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs..

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
